Under what conditions can they help you?

It's one of the most well-established covers in motor insurance and one of the most requested. But roadside assistance is much more than a tow truck to help you when you get a flat tyre or run out of petrol on the motorway.

Travel assistance is one of the most important covers in car insurance, as it gives you access to a set of guarantees that protect you and your vehicle in the event of an accident or illness while travelling abroad.

Find out about some of the services offered by this guarantee, which can be very useful at complex times:

When you have a fault

It's your “best friend” in the event of an accident, battery failure or other breakdown that prevents you from travelling. When you contact Roadside Assistance, the insurer guarantees a repair service (breakdown) or, if this is not possible, a tow to take your vehicle to a workshop identified by you, up to the limit defined in the general conditions.

If necessary, roadside assistance also guarantees the removal or extraction of the car, getting it back on the road.

When you can't go back

Have you had a breakdown that can't be repaired at the moment or on the same day? Has your car been stolen and you can't get home? You can activate roadside assistance and the insurer will guarantee the transport of all occupants to your home or travel destination, whichever is less expensive.

If there are two or more passengers, the insurer will arrange a hire car to complete the journey.

When you have to stay put... waiting for a repair

Imagine you're away on holiday and on the day you return your car breaks down. If it can't be repaired that day, the insurer will cover your stay in a hotel, up to the limit set in the specific conditions.

When you have a puncture, you run out of fuel or lose your keys

These are episodes that have happened to almost everyone once in their lives. In these cases, you can contact roadside assistance to carry out an on-site repair, send a tow truck or even deliver the fuel you need to get to the nearest petrol station.

When you are unable to drive

Are you travelling abroad by car and unable to drive due to an accident or sudden illness? If none of the vehicle's occupants can replace you, Travel Assistance will arrange for a professional driver to take you back to Portugal or to your final destination, whichever takes fewer days.

When you need a replacement car

Not all repairs can be carried out at the same time or on the same day. In the event of a breakdown, the insurer will provide you with a replacement car similar to yours for the duration of the repair.

If the insurer is unable to provide the car, it will pay compensation equivalent to the daily cost of hiring the car.

When you need a daily driver

Road accidents can leave you temporarily unable to drive. In this situation, and provided that the accident occurred with the insured vehicle, the assistance service will arrange for a driver to drive another car provided by you.

This service is only valid for journeys between home and work or the medical centre where you are being accompanied.

When you need medical care or medicines abroad

Regardless of how far you're travelling (for work or pleasure), if you're abroad always have your car insurance green card close to you - it's where you'll find the contact details for foreign travel assistance.

If you suffer an injury or suddenly fall ill, contact travel assistance abroad and the insurer will arrange for an ambulance to take you to the nearest hospital and will cover the costs of hospitalisation, medical and surgical expenses and prescription drugs, up to the limit set in the special conditions.
