Grumese Seguros Supports Scholas Occurrentes in Cascais: Promoting Education and Citizenship Among Young People
Grumese Seguros has teamed up with Scholas Occurrentes, an international non-profit organisation committed to the education and social integration of disadvantaged children and young people. With a presence in 190 countries, it covers more than 400,000 educational centres, positively impacting the lives of more than 1 million children and young people around the world.
Founded in 2001 in Buenos Aires by then Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, Scholas Occurrentes aims to promote a culture of encounter through education. The organisation has several global offices, including in Argentina, Vatican City, Colombia, Spain, Haiti, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal and Romania.
In Portugal, the Cascais office was inaugurated on 21 March 2019, located in the former Conde Ferreira school in the historic centre of Cascais. This space has become a focal point for promoting citizenship and responsibility among young people.
Programmes and activities in Cascais
Grumese Seguros is one of the organisations supporting the Sea and Beach School programme from May to July 2024. The aim of this project is for young people to discover their passion through surfing, art, thought, self-knowledge and confidence, and to be one of the foundations for creating their own opportunities in an environment where they can discover another way of living outside the disadvantaged backgrounds that surround them.
The course will be held in Carcavelos, will last 3 months, and will take place 4 times a week from Monday to Thursday, 3 hours in the afternoon, in order to ensure that all participants can surf and have a really meaningful experience.
There are various Scholas Occurrentes programmes in Cascais, allowing young people to express themselves through the arts and other activities, including: the Scholas Music project, for example, which is aimed at young people aged 13 to 21, who come together to create, record and produce a song and a music video. These workshops take place every Tuesday at 5.30pm in Rua do Colégio 5.
Another significant programme is Arte Scholas, which encourages young people to explore their creativity through painting and music. In Scholas Sports, activities such as FutVal and BoxVal are carried out in collaboration with local sports clubs and schools, promoting teamwork and the training of trainers.
Scholas Labs Jam is another innovative project, bringing together young people with a passion for innovation to create services and models that address community problems.

The Importance of Scholas Chairs
As well as youth programmes, Scholas Occurrentes also involves universities through the Scholas Chairs project. This initiative aims to create a network of 100 universities from 34 organisations, with the aim of spreading ideas, proposals and involving students in community service activities.
Grumese Seguros' support for Scholas Occurrentes in Cascais represents a commitment to the future of young people, providing them with the tools to develop their skills, express their creativity and make a positive contribution to society. This investment in young people's education and citizenship is crucial to building a fairer and more inclusive world, so we invite everyone to support this great institution.
