Claims management for foreign insurers

With the rise in tourism and the increase in road traffic, accidents also tend to increase, particularly with foreign vehicles
European insurers that do not have a presence in Portugal must appoint a representative. As the ASF says, “Insurance companies authorised to operate compulsory motor third party liability insurance in the European Union are obliged to appoint a Claims Representative in all Member States, with the exception of the State where they have their registered office.
In the event of an accident occurring in the European Union (EU), or in a third country adhering to the Green Card System, the injured party can return to the Member State of their residence and ask the Information Centre to identify the insurer of the vehicle that caused the accident, or the Claims Representative that has been appointed.
On the basis of this information, those concerned can then submit a claim to the designated Claims Representative if the accident was caused by a vehicle normally parked and insured in another Member State other than that of their residence.
In July 2019, Grumese began representing one of Spain's largest insurers, CASER-Caja Seguros Reunidos Compañia de Seguros e Reaseguros SA, through a partnership developed with one of Europe's leading claims management companies, Coris Compañia de Organizacion y Regulacion Internacional de Siniestros SA.
They began representing foreign insurance companies in the management of motor vehicle claims, and have already registered 400 cases.
With a management team with great technical capacity and extensive experience of more than 30 years.
They have developed partnerships that make it possible to speed up liaison between their clients (almost all of whom are foreigners), an exclusive British broker, a Spanish insurance company, an expertise network that operates throughout mainland Spain and car repair shops throughout the country.
Grumese is aware that they have achieved the level of knowledge and organisational stability that allows them to take a few more steps in this project.
